Phantomwitch does bring up a good point, but it still doesn't address whether or not many of these insert songs or themes songs are really applicable to the show. They sometimes are, like she pointed out, but I find that with many anime series and films where songs are written for them tend to be far more conforming to those particular anime.

I am, however, surprised to know about those particular primetime shows. I don't want many primetime shows, so I was completely oblivious from much of that, >.<. What I'd really like to see, though, are more intros and ending themes from different Western artists. They're the songs that one most "tune into" while watching a show.

Hmm, that's interesting. I never knew that. I suppose you're right then -- I'm expecting it from the wrong sort of shows. I guess the population of those old enough to seek out and buy music don't usually watch cartoons like I do. Damn.

Here's your problem- you're expecting music from the wrong television shows. You need to watch primetime. In the ad campaigns for House on Fox, and for the ABC fall lineup, I heard interesting music that I later checked out. Also, in the shows on ABC: Ugly Betty (coindicdentally, it had a song written for it and one used that fit perfectly: The Beauty in Ugly by Jason Mraz and Big Girls by Mika) has had interesting music spotlighted in many episodes. Grey's Anatomy constantly brings up unknown music to play in the background. And, as much as I hate to admit that I've seen even one episode of it, The Hills has just added a black popup bar, that gives the artist and song playing in the background during episodes.

So- check out primetime, and you'll see that the beneficial trade of music continues. Just not as prominently as intros.

I completely agree. It's an interesting question to ponder, really. The music industry is obviously in a stage of desperation at the moment, differing recording companies using different methods and scrounging for new ways to advertise their artists and records. With the tremendous amount of popularity that TV shows are receiving lately (it's interesting, isn't it? But I suppose that's what happens with a dying movie industry and more and more digital and HD channels being scrounged up by consumers with brand-new big HD screens) you'd think artists would take this particular approach, but alas. Maybe we should e-mail some recording company CEOs links to some anime OPs/EDs. XD And yes, I love almost all of the OPs, EDs, and insert songs from Gundam 00, even though I didn't like the show as much as "Ash Like Snow" (which I absolutely adore) and "daybreak's bell".
