I didn't think the ending was bad either (that is, if I pretend the movie never happened). But I think that's what they're doing with the Hellsing series, redoing it into a more faithful adaption. Not knowing much about Hellsing, I can't say how that worked, but the prospect of a FMA sequel doesn't sit well with me. If it had been anything else on the other side of the Gate, I would have probably been fine. If Ed had just freakin' died, it would have been better.
