I think Star Trek is pretty much the best example of a new movie for an old franchise just because it was SO successful in pleasing everyone, old and new alike. With the huge number of reboots and remakes we've been seeing these days, it's definitely a breath of fresh air to find one that everyone enjoyed. Agreed all around. Casting Simon Pegg as Scott was a nice touch I really appreciated too, being the Spaced/SotD/Hot Fuzz fanboy that I am.<br /><br />The movie succeeds not just by being fun in a knowing way (which will please the fans, no doubt) but it doesn't require any prior knowledge at all, which is great for the rest of us. Friends of mine who are long-standing Trekkies were talking about how it was a great 'reboot' of the franchise, while I was left impressed at a movie I didn't expect to enjoy. Everyone's happy!
