I honestly clicked the link to your Dragonball Evolution review... I wanted to see a sane person's review of it. Therefore I am what is normally described as "The Sad".

Agreed all around. I think Star Trek is pretty much the best example of a new movie for an old franchise just because it was SO successful in pleasing everyone, old and new alike. With the huge number of reboots and remakes we've been seeing these days, it's definitely a breath of fresh air to find one that everyone enjoyed.

Good to know I wasn't the only one who went into this film having seen nothing of ST before, beyond a passing encounter with the Patrick Stewart days (and yes, I think he was an excellent choice...a superb actor all round really).

I agree the choice of antagonist was a bit weak but as you say, it's all about the two protagonists and how their bond is formed...which was entertaining and fascinating. Casting Simon Pegg as Scott was a nice touch I really appreciated too, being the Spaced/SotD/Hot Fuzz fanboy that I am.

The movie succeeds not just by being fun in a knowing way (which will please the fans, no doubt) but it doesn't require any prior knowledge at all, which is great for the rest of us. Friends of mine who are long-standing Trekkies were talking about how it was a great 'reboot' of the franchise, while I was left impressed at a movie I didn't expect to enjoy. Everyone's happy!

Added parentheses. :P

Would definitely be a movie worth owning. A few people have promised to sit me down with the old movies next quarter, but we'll see how that goes, lol.

Good review. I really want to see this sometime, though I probably won't until it comes out on DVD or something.

The absence of parentheses around 2009 in the title is deeply aggravating.
